The Mgahinga national park is the Ugandan side of the Virunga volcano chain home to endangered mountain gorillas which include the Volcanoes national park in Rwanda and Virunga national park of Congo.
This park is the smallest Ugandan national about 33.7 km situated about 15 Km by road from Kisoro town and is located in Kisoro district.
The park has one habituated gorilla group, which in recent days has stabilized in the park, but used to regular cross border into Rwanda and Congo but Today the forest offers a guarantee for travelers to see the mountain gorillas.
Mgahinga national park covers three of the eight Virunga volcanoes: Mount Muhabura, Mount Gahinga and Mount Sabyinyo, which are found along the Uganda/Rwanda border.
Other wildlife in the park inludes Blue Monkeys, Black & White colobus monkey,forest elephant,and lots of bird life.
