January 21, 2016Leave a commentnational parksBy admin

Mountain Rwenzori is a snow capped block mountain located in western Uganda near the border with Democratic Republic of Congo. This Albertine rift valley mountain is the third largest mountain on the African continent with the highest peak Margherita standing at 5,109 meters above sea level.

Rwenzori mountain has a range of mountains and peaks some of which stretch up to Democratic Republic of Congo. All the high peaks on the Rwenzori above 4,500 meters above sea level have permanent snow with impressive glacial features like glacier lakes, pyramidal peaks, u shaped valleys and many others.

Mountain Rwenzori hiking is one of the challenging journeys especially towards the summit where there is fog that reduces visibility plus the extreme cold conditions that freezes below zero degrees. All the hikers should therefore prepare better hiking gear, jackets, hand gloves, head gears and good tents to have a successful mountain of the moon journeys.

Hiking the Rwenzori Mountain

Rwenzori is one of the most popular mountain in East Africa and is often hiked by travelers seeking adventure, hence this mountain has clear trekking paths which makes hiking easier; porters for hire are also readily available. The Rwenzori is also blessed with various wild life species including the rare three horned chameleon, birds like the Rwenzori Turaco, elephants, the Rwenzori double collared sunbird plus leopard which are rarely seen.

How to get there
The Rwenzori Mountain is about 375 kilometers from Kampala city by road however charter planes can also be used to reach the area from Kajjansi airfield or Entebbe airport to Kasese airfield.
