Kisoro is the nearest town to Mgahinga national park, situated in western Uganda at the foothill of mountain Mufumbiro which makes part of the Ugandan side of the Virunga chain of volcanoes and home to the rare Mountain Gorilla. Today, Kisoro has become a major tourists destination because of her presence in the Virunga region, the beautiful mountainous scenery, amazing views of Lake Mutanda, Mountain Gorillas.
Kisoro is the access town for travelers crossing to Rwanda or the Democratic republic of Congo for gorilla watching in Rwanda’s volcanoes national park and Virunga in Congo

Cyanika border – Kisoro 14 kms 45 minutes drive
Bunagana border – Kisoro 14 kms 45 minutes drive
The route arriving to Kisoro from Kabale is a bad marrum road with large trailer trucks usually driving to the Democratic Republic of Congo through the Bunagana border
Accessing Kisoro by Public Transport:
Today a number of buses drive to Kisoro on a daily route departure The first bus sets off as early as 06:30AM. For example Uganda past bus, kalita coaches, Horizon buses,straway express Ltd, Gaaga bus, the choice is yours.
Bus fares range from 30, 000 – 35, 000 thousand shilllings
Matatus or taxiz are availble a taxi parks in Kabale making journeys to and from Kabale. These cars are always over loaded and in poor conditions.
Basically its necessary to hire a car from this point to Kisoro. Its much more convinient. From Kisori to Cyanika, or Bunagana, there is no regular public transport. On working days, On market days (Monday and Thursday) in Kisoro there is significantly more transport between the borders.
